Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Evelyn Klein, Athletics Communications Assistant

No. 15 Cardinals edge Bears, 3-1

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (8-8-2, 3-3-1) was defeated 3-1 by No. 15 Plattsburgh (10-6, 5-1) on Friday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Plattsburgh netted the first goal of the game with roughly three minutes to go in the opening period, scored by Bailey MacKellar and assisted by Emily Kasprzak and Lauren Farris. 
  • The Cardinals doubled their lead two minutes later with a goal from Taya Balfour. Molly Riggi and Zoe Puc had the assists. 
  • Senior goaltender Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 12 saves in the second period to keep the scoreline 2-0. 
  • The Bears scored 40 seconds into the third period courtesy of senior forward Megan Mills (Mono, Ontario/North York Storm), with assists from senior forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) and freshman forward Jayne Gamburg (Upper Dublin, Pa./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers). 
  • Brooke Terry gave Plattsburgh their third goal late in the final period, assisted by MacKellar and Kasprzak, sealing the win, 3-1. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • The Bears were outshot 61-34. 
  • Neither team had success on the power play. Potsdam was 0-for-1. Plattsburgh was 0-for-3. 
  • Parent made 31 saves in the contest, earning a .912 save percentage. 
  • Cardinals' goalie Chloe Lewis stopped 15 shots.
