POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (6-7, 3-3 SUNYAC) scored three times in the third period to defeat Buffalo State (5-7-1, 2-3-1) 4-2 on Friday night in Maxcy Ice Arena. Sophomore forward
Finnegan Kilmurray (Ottawa, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears) had a goal and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman forward Lucas Signoretti (Ottawa, Ontario/Sudbury Cubs) scored off a faceoff at 6:29 of the first period to give the Bengals a 1-0 lead.
- Buffalo State made it 2-0 just 2:03 into the second period with a power-play goal from freshman defenseman Foster Nichol (Brentwood, Tenn./Shreveport Mudbugs). Junior forward Jake Meure (Fremont, Calif./Ogden Mustangs) and sophomore defenseman Andrey Manov (Chelyabinsk, Russia/Blind River Beavers) had the assists.
- Freshman forward Platon Krasnoiarov (Khabarovsk, Russia/New Hampshire Mountain Kings) finally got the Bears on the board at 17:58 of the second with an assist from Kilmurray.
- Kilmurray then tied the game at 2:49 of the third period with helpers from junior forward Jakub Hall (Anchorage, Alaska/Richmond Generals) and junior forward Will O'Brien (Jefferson Hills, Pa./HC Rhode Island).
- Senior forward Jeremy Quesnel (Alexandria, Ontario/Hawkesbury Hawks) tipped the eventual game-winner inside the right post just a minute later with assists from Hall and senior forward Mathieu Parent (Kapuskasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves).
- At 7:57, junior defenseman Rocco Seery (Bloomingdale, Ill./East Coast Wizards) scored from the right point after senior captain Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals) won the faceoff.
- The Bengals pulled freshman goalie Ben Dardis (Pine Springs, Minn./Olds Grizzlys) for an extra attacker with 2:07 left, but couldn't get any closer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Buffalo State outshot the Bears 28-27.
- The Bengals were 1-for-2 on the power play and the Bears were 0-for-4.
- Potsdam junior goalie Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 26 saves to earn his fourth win of the season and the 13th of his career.
- The Bears are now 36-28-4 in the all-time series with the Bengals, dating back to a 6-1 win in Potsdam on January 22, 1994.
