Oswego downs Potsdam

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (4-6, 2-2 SUNYAC) used a fast start to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (2-8, 1-2) 69-45 on Friday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers outscored the Bears 20-7 in the first quarter. Senior forward DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) scored Potsdam's first four points.
  • Oswego had a 20-12 edge in the second quarter to take a 40-19 advantage into the half. Freshman guard Lucie Scarpine (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) had five points, including a three. Freshman guard Lillian Hoyt (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) also hit a three for the Bears.
  • The Lakers edged the Bears 16-15 in the third quarter and led 51-32 after 30 minutes. Graduate student guard Xy'El Bradford (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse Academy of Science) had four points.
  • Oswego capped the contest with a 13-11 final 10 minutes. Sophomore Rachel LaRock (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) had four points in the fourth and junior guard Marygrace Guiney (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) hit a 3-pointer.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Lakers shot 35.8-percent from the floor to the Bears' 25.8.
  • Oswego finished with a 58-44 advantage on the glass.
  • Scarpine led the Bears with nine points and five rebounds.
  • Alcock finished with eight points and a block.
  • Zhane Holmes had a game-high 17 points to lead the Lakers.
