Blue Devils edge Bears in OT, 4-3

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (7-13-2, 4-9-2) was defeated by the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils (4-17-1, 4-10-1) 4-3 in overtime on Friday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Junior Bears' forward Jakub Hall (Anchorage, Alaska/Richmond Generals) put Potsdam on the board first at 11:15 in the opening period, assisted by senior forward Mathieu Parent (Kapuskasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves) and junior defenseman Eli Doughart-Wood (St. Louis, Mo./Navan Grads). 
  • The Blue Devils tied the game five minutes later. Cash Anderson had the goal. Luke Morris and Hudson Cameron had the assists. 
  • Doughart-Wood added a second goal late in the second period, unassisted. 
  • Fredonia went ahead 3-2 with two goals in three minutes in the third period. 
  • Keenan McNeill had the game-tying goal, assisted by Garrison Gagnon. 
  • Ethan Pitzman added the third for the Blue Devils. Dillon Schmidt had the assist. 
  • Senior Bears' forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders) tied it late in the third on the power play. Doughart-Wood recorded his second assist of the game. 
  • Fredonia's Owen Cross netted the OT game-winner on the power play, assisted by Owen Arnold and Anderson. The final score was 4-3. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • The Bears outshot the Blue Devils 35 to 23. 
  • Potsdam was 1-for-4 on the power play. Fredonia was 1-for-1. 
  • Junior Bears' goaltender Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 19 saves in the contest. 
  • Blue Devils' goalie Charles-Anthony Barbeau had 32 saves. 

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Bears face the Buffalo State Bengals tomorrow at 4 p.m.
