Buffalo State overpowers Potsdam

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (9-13-1, 6-9-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (7-14-2, 4-10-2) 6-2 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals struck twice in the first period.
  • Lucas Signoretti made it 1-0 just 2:49 into the contest with an assist from Ryan Messing.
  • Jason Kwestel doubled the lead at 9:12 with an assist from Aaron Andrade.
  • Sophomore defenseman Lucas Salas (Hazlet, N.J./New Jersey 87's) got the Bears on the board at 8:02 of the second period. Senior forward Payton Felix (De Peyster, N.Y./Northeast Generals) and junior forward Will O'Brien (Jefferson Hills, Pa./HC Rhode Island) picked up the assists.
  • Buffalo State answered with two power-play goals for a 4-1 lead after two periods.
  • Signoretti netted his second at 12:26 with assists from Chris Blango and Andrade.
  • He then completed his hat trick at 17:35 with helpers from Kwestel and Blango.
  • Senior forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders) closed the gap to 4-2 just 1:10 into the third period. Senior forward Mathieu Parent (Kapuskasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves) and junior assistant captain Eli Doughart-Wood (St. Louis, Mo./Navan Grads) had the assists.
  • Gleb Ushakov extended the Bengals' lead back to three at 12:34 with assists from Andrade and Signoretti.
  • Signoretti buried his fourth of the contest at 16:10 on a feed from Messing to close the scoring at 6-2.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bengals outshot the Bears 37-29.
  • Buffalo State was 2-for-3 on the power play and Potsdam finished 0-for-2.
  • Bears junior goalie Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) finished with 31 saves.
  • Marcus Cumberworth earned the win with 23 stops in the first 56:10. Liam Gross stopped all four shots he faced in the last 3:50.
