Roos outlast Bears, 3-2

CANTON, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-11-2, 4-6-1) was defeated by the SUNY Canton Kangaroos (12-7-3, 4-5-2) 3-2 on Friday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Roos netted the first goal of the game at 13:38 in the opening period. Kyra O'Keefe scored, assisted by Isabella Paswaters and Bailey Cote. 
  • In the second period, Lucy Beal doubled Canton's lead on the power play. Anna Pavlasova and Riley Andzel had the assists. 
  • The Bears made it 2-1 with a minute to go in the second. Senior defenseman Rachelle Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) scored on the power play. Junior defenseman Jessika Bullock (Norfolk, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers) picked up the assist. 
  • Canton added another power play goal at 6:27 in the third period through Jane Pancoe. Assists went to Chamonix Jackson and Taylor Stoll. 
  • Freshman Bears' forward Marissa Whiteside (Long Sault, Ontario/Corwall Lady Royals) netted Potsdam's second goal halfway through the third, assisted by freshman forward Coralie Paradis (Montreal, Quebec/Bourget College) and Bullock. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Canton outshot Potsdam 36 to 18. 
  • The Bears were 1-for-3 on the power play. The Roos were 2-for-2. 
  • Senior Bears' goaltender Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) stopped 33 shots in the contest. 
  • Canton goalie Molly Lenihan made 15 saves. 

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Bears travel to Oswego tomorrow to take on the Lakers at 3 p.m.
