FREDONIA, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (12-9, 7-7 SUNYAC) pulled away in the second half for a 74-42 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (4-18, 3-12) on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils outscored the Bears 16-9 in the first quarter. All of Potsdam's points came via the 3-pointer. Freshman guard Lucie Scarpine (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) hit two threes and fellow freshman guard Olivia Cook (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had the other.
- The Bears bounced back in the second quarter, topping Fredonia 15-14. They trailed 30-24 at the half. After the Blue Devils scored the first four points of the quarter, Potsdam answered with an 11-0 run to knot the score at 20-20. Scarpine scored eight of the points, including two threes.
- Fredonia controlled the third quarter with a 19-8 advantage and led 49-32 after 30 minutes. Senior forward DaeLynn Alcock (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) had four points for the Bears.
- The Blue Devils put the game away with a 25-10 fourth quarter to close out the 74-42 win. Cook had four points and Alcock added three.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Fredonia shot 41.5-percent from the floor and held Potsdam to 23.6.
- The Blue Devils outrebounded the Bears 45-31.
- Scarpine finished with 14 points, while Alcock had nine and Cook eight.
- Grace Alexander led Fredonia with 23 points and five assists, while Aliyah Hopkins contributed a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
