Bengals top Bears, 83-73

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (9-14, 5-11 SUNYAC) held off the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-22, 1-15) 83-73 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals opened the contest with the first 11 points.
  • The Bears countered with a 17-4 run to grab a 17-15 edge at 10:20. Sophomore guard Timothy Hardy (Portsmouth, Va./Ocean Lakes) had seven points, including a three.
  • A Buffalo State 9-0 run gave the Bengals a 35-27 advantage at 1:47. The Bears scored the final seven points of the half to get within 35-34. Senior guard Jaylen Singh (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Rockvale) scored four of the points and sophomore guard Bobby Kemokai (New Brunswick, N.J./Plattsburgh) had three.
  • The second half started with a series of runs. A 7-2 run gave the Bengals a 44-36 lead. The Bears answered with a 10-0 run for a 46-44 advantage. Buffalo State followed with a 19-7 stretch for a 63-53 lead.
  • Potsdam made a final 13-6 charge to get within 69-66 with 2:30 remaining. However, Buffalo State sealed the win from the free-throw line.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bengals outshot the Bears from the floor 44.4-percent to 41.1.
  • Buffalo State also edged Potsdam in rebounds, 39-32.
  • Sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) led the Bears with 16 points and six rebounds.
  • Kemokai and Hardy each finished with 15 points, while Singh scored 10.
  • Chisom Ani paced the Bengals with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Oryan DeJesus also posted a double-double for the hosts with 17 points and 12 boards.
