Red Dragons overpower Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (5-19, 4-13) was overpowered by SUNY Oneonta (14-10, 9-8) 62-26 on Friday evening in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. 


HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • A back-and-forth first five minutes saw four lead changes before the Red Dragons pulled away, outscoring the Bears 18-9 in the opening quarter. Senior Bears' guard DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) led Potsdam with five points. 
  • Potsdam was outscored 16-5 in the second quarter, Oneonta stretching their lead to 20 points. Potsdam went into the break down 34-14. Freshman guard Olivia Cook (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had four of the Bears' points in the second. 
  • The Bears were held to four points in the third quarter as the Red Dragons extended their lead to 30. Alcock reached eight points and 10 rebounds in the quarter. 
  • Oneonta finished on top, 62-26, outscoring Potsdam 13-8 in the final quarter. Alcock became the first Bear in double figures with 12 points. 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Oneonta shot 31.6-percent from the field. Potsdam had a 17.8 field-goal percentage. 
  • The Bears were outrebounded 54-35. 
  • Alcock was the only Bear in double figures, recording a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. 
  • Senior Oneonta guard Lidia Boucher (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) led all scorers with 14 points and had seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block. Sophomore center Leela Guobadia(Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had 11 points, eight rebounds, and a block. 


WHAT'S NEXT 
The Bears finish out the season tomorrow at 2 p.m. as they take on the SUNY New Paltz Hawks for Senior Day.
