POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (11-12-2, 6-7-1) closed out the regular season with a 1-0 win over SUNY Cortland (14-7-4, 8-4-2) on Senior Day, remaining undefeated against the Red Dragons this season, completing a SUNYAC weekend sweep, and advancing to the conference playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Bears' goaltender Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) stopped 14 shots in the first period to keep the Red Dragons scoreless.
- Senior Bears' defenseman Elise Clifford (Auburn, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) netted the only goal of the game on the power play with a one-timer from the point, assisted by junior forward Jalynn Castro (Dexter, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles).
- Parent made another 12 saves in the final period to seal the shutout and clinch the final spot in the SUNYAC playoffs.
- Following the conclusion of the contest, Potsdam honored its nine seniors: forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles), assistant captain and defenseman Victoria Proulx (Rockville, Ontario/Post University), Elise Clifford, captain and defenseman Rachelle Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles), assistant captain and forward Alessia Marandola (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets), forward Josie Purdy (White Lake, Nova Scotia/Ontario Hockey Academy), forward Megan Mills (Mono, Ontario/North York Storm), forward Isabel Boyd (Norwood, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers), and captain Magalie Parent.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Bears were outshot 36-23.
- Potsdam was 1-for-2 on the power play. Cortland was 0-for-4.
- Parent stopped all 36 shots faced in the contest, earning her seventh career shutout, fourth of the season.
- Freshman Cortland goalie Eline Gillodes (La Saulce, France/Kents Hill) made 22 saves.
