Bears break Mustangs, 60-44

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (4-16, 3-10) defeated SUNY Morrisville (1-19, 0-13) 60-44 on Friday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Bears outscored the Mustangs 16-8 in the opening quarter, despite a 6-0 run by Morrisville to start the game. A 16-2 run by Potsdam ended the quarter. Freshman guard Lucie Scarpine (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) had nine points in the first. 
  • Potsdam went on a 13-4 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter and held Morrisville to five points. The half ended 35-13 in favor of the Bears. Scarpine became the only player in double figures with 17 points. 
  • A 12-2 run by Potsdam opened the third quarter as they stretched their lead to 30. It was a closer quarter as the Bears outscored the Mustangs 20-16. Junior guard Sara Richards (Au Sable Forks, N.Y./AuSable Valley) had five points in the third, bringing her game total to eight. 
  • Morrisville began the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run. The Bears were outscored 12-7 in the quarter, but finished in front, 60-44. Senior guard DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) was the second Bear in double figures, reaching 10 points in the fourth. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • The Bears shot 36.0-percent from the field and 35.7-percent from 3-point range. The Mustangs were 28.4-percent fron the field and 14.3-percent from the 3-point line. 
  • Potsdam outrebounded Morrisville 53 to 29. 
  • Scarpine finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. Alcock recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 
  • Morrisville's Anyssia Ingersoll had 27 points in the contest.

The Bears are back in action at Cortland tomorrow at 2 p.m.
