POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (7-11-2, 4-7-2 SUNYAC) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie SUNY Morrisville (2-16-3, 1-10-3) 3-3 on Friday night in Maxcy Ice Arena.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Mustangs struck first with a shorthanded goal 3:25 into the contest. Sophomore forward Zach Nicholls (Chestermere, Alberta/Charlotte Rush) picked up a pass from freshman forward Tanner Dietz (Michell, Ontario/Listowel Cyclones) and evaded Bears sophomore goalie Luciano Chinappi (Hilton, N.Y./Boston Jr. Rangers) to make it 1-0.
• Morrisville grabbed a 2-0 lead just 2:04 into the second period on the power play as senior forward Will Jones (Corbeil, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) struck from the right side of the slot. Senior defenseman Connor Carlile (Southlake, Texas/Hampton Roads Whalers) and freshman defenseman Connor Santay (Baldwinsville, N.Y./New Jersey 87's) had the assists.
• Sophomore forward Owen Watson (Smiths Falls, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears) got the Bears on the board just 1:30 later with helpers from junior defenseman Rocco Seery (Bloomingdale, Ill./East Coast Wizards) and senior forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders).
• At 12:49, senior assistant captain Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers) tied the game with a rocket from the left point. Freshman defenseman Zdenek Dobes (Ostravia, Czech Republic/Lonestar Brahmas) and sophomore forward Finnegan Kilmurray (Ottawa, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears) had the assists.
• The Mustangs answered just 1:19 later with another power-play goal. Freshman forward Tanner Dietz (Michell, Ontario/Listowel Cyclones) scored from the right side of the net with assists from Santay and Carlile.
• With 1:31 left in the third period, Chinappi was pulled for an extra attacker.
• Six seconds later, Mahlmeister knocked home the tying goal with assists from senior forward Mathieu Parent (Kapuskasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves) and senior captain Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals).
• There was no scoring in overtime, but Mahlmeister scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Bears the potential tiebreaker.

• Potsdam outshot Morrisville 40-35.
• The Mustangs were 2-for-5 on the power play and the Bears were 0-for-5.
• Chinappi finished with 32 saves and Morrisville freshman goalie Chad Lowe (Worcester Jr. Railers) made 37 stops.
