Gulls upend Bears in NEVC match, 3-1

BEVERLY, MASS.—Endicott College (17-3, 5-0 NEVC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (8-5, 3-3) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A late Endicott run gave the Gulls a 25-22 win in set one. Graduate student middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had four kills and senior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) added three.
  • The Bears tied the match with a set two 25-21 win. Matt Kilinski, senior middle hitter Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and junior middle hitter Jack Orrange (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) each had four kills.
  • Endicott pulled away in the second half of set three for a 25-20 win. Tenhagen had three more kills and Matt Kilinski had two.
  • Endicott finished set four on a 15-6 run to close out the match with a 25-15 win. Matt and Mike Kilinski gave the Bears three kills each.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Matt Kilinski broke the 800-career kill plateau with 13 kills to go with three aces. Mike Kilinski had 10 kills and a career-high seven blocks.
  • Tenhagen contributed nine kills, and eight digs.
  • Junior setter Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) posted 36 assists.
  • Freshman libero Rowan Root (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) had 11 digs and freshman setter Shane Goldberg (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) added seven. Junior right side Benson Jovel-Truong (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) registered two aces.
  • Tenhagen's kills record is now 841 and Matt Kilinski is second with 807.
  • Lombardo has extended his program assists record to 1503.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears are back in action in one week when they head to Hartwick College for two matches with the Hawks.
