POTSDAM, N.Y.—Two SUNY Potsdam basketball players have been named to their respective College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams. Sophomore guard
Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) and junior guard
Sara Richards (Au Sable Forks, N.Y./Ausable Valley) have earned the honor. The teams are selected by CSC member directors of athletic communications to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
To be eligible for the honor, athletes need to be at least a sophomore, maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, compete in 90 percent of their teams' contests or start in 66 percent.
Hancock, an Exercise Science major, led the Bears in scoring and rebounding while starting all 25 games this season. The guard scored 13.5 points-per-game and grabbed 6.6 rebounds-per game. He also had 82 assists, 31 steals and 11 blocks. The week of January 26 was the finest of Hancock's career. In three games that week, he averaged 26.3 points-per-game and 10.7 rebounds-per-game, shot 53.1-percent from the floor and 55.6-percent from 3-point range. He recorded two double-doubles, 17 assists, three blocks and five steals. The performance earned him SUNYAC Athlete of the Week Honors.
Richards, who served as Bears captain this season, played in all 25 games with 11 starts. The Exercise Science major averaged 3.4 ppg. and 2.9 rpg. Richards also contributed 31 assists and 29 steals. In her three seasons at Potsdam, she's totaled 165 points, 138 rebounds, 64 assists, 51 steals and four blocks in 72 career contests. Richards is also in her first season with the Bears softball team.
