Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) matched a career-high with 23 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears got off to a quick start and led 3-1 at 5:19 of the first quarter. The Golden Knights answered and tied the game through 15 minutes. Sophomore attackman Braydon Goddard (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) got the Bears on the board with a man-up goal on a feed from senior attackman Billy Kozloski (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) at 9:42. Freshman defender Damyn LeClair (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) gave the Bears a 2-1 lead at 5:29. Just 10 seconds later, senior defender Ryan Wassmer (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) extended the lead with an assist from senior defender Alex Farben-Griggs (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains).
- Clarkson outscored the Bears 2-1 in the second quarter. Kozloski put Potsdam up for the last time at 12:27. Senior captain Tommy Storrin (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) had the assist. It was 5-4 Golden Knights at the half.
- The Golden Knights netted the only two goals of the third quarter. Ethan Hopkins scored and William Goyette added a man-up marker.
- Clarkson had a 3-2 edge in the final 15 minutes to close out the 10-6 decision. Freshman midfielder Ronin Oakes (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) and sophomore attackman Preston Daniels (Peru, N.Y./Peru) each scored for Potsdam. Goddard assisted on Oakes' goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Clarkson outshot Potsdam 54-25 and was 2-for-6 in extra-man opportunities to the Bears' 1-for-3.
- Goddard and Kozloski each had a goal and an assist.
- LeClair finished with a goal, four caused turnovers and a ground ball. Wassmer had a goal and three caused turnovers. Farbin-Griggs recorded seven ground balls an assist and three turnovers.
- Senior captain Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) won 11 of his 17 faceoffs and picked up five ground balls.
- Goyette led Clarkson with four points on two goals and two assists.
- Griffin Emerson earned the win in goal for the Golden Knights with 12 saves.
