Red Dragons overpower Bears to open SUNYAC play

CORTLAND, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (5-3, 1-0 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-5) 19-3 on Wednesday afternoon in the teams' SUNYAC opener.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Junior midfielder Iohseriio Tabor (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) led the Bears with a goal and an assist.
  • Senior captain Megan MacWilliams (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) and sophomore attack Jayla Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) also scored for the Bears.
  • Senior midfielder Auna Shadle (Massena, N.Y./Massena) totaled six draw controls.
  • Senior goalie Jane Olszewski (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) made seven saves.
  • Ashley Melillo led the Red Dragons with four goals and an assist and Kristen Javenes scored four goals.
  • Cortland goalie Trinity Parks earned the win with two saves and a goal allowed in the first 25:23. Mia Bella Love made two saves and allowed two goals in the last 34:37.
