Saints push past Potsdam

CANTON, N.Y.—St. Lawrence University (6-3) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (5-2) 18-7 on Tuesday evening. Sophomore attackman Braydon Goddard (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) led the Bears with a career-high four goals and senior goalie Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made 21 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints raced out to a 15-3 advantage through the contest's first 48:34.
  • The Bears scored four of the last seven goals to narrow the gap.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Senior attackmen Billy Kozloski (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) and Rowisonkies Barnes (Akwesasne, N.Y./The Hill Academy) each had a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Andrew Gubbins (South Pomfret, Vt./Woodstock Union) had Potsdam's other goal.
  • Junior captain Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) won 10 faceoffs and picked up six ground balls. Freshman defender Damyn LeClair (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) had four ground balls and junior defender Skylar Running Rabbit (Siksika, Alberta/Strathmore) caused two turnovers and had three ground balls.
  • Saints goalie Heath Mann allowed three goals and stopped 12 shots in 45 minutes to earn the win. George Persinger made two saves and allowed four goals in the fourth quarter.
  • Daniel Mahoney paced SLU's offense with two goals and three assists for five points. Jamie Rosenzweig scored three times and assisted on a goal.
