Red Dragons overpower Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (6-5, 2-0 SUNYAC) started quickly and defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (5-4, 0-2) 21-4 on Friday afternoon.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Red Dragons set the tone with an 8-1 first quarter and never let up.
  • Bears senior goalie Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made 15 saves.
  • Cortland junior goalie Charlie Falowski (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) earned the win with five saves in the first three quarters. Sophomore Jack Lucidi (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) made three saves in the fourth quarter.
  • Senior attackman Billy Kozloski (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) led the Bears with three goals. Senior defender Ryan Wassmer (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) scored the other goal.
  • Senior captain Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) won 13 of his 26 faceoff attempts and collected five ground balls. Sophomore attackman Braydon Goddard (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had five ground balls and a caused turnover. Fellow senior captain Tommy Storrin (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Junior midfielder Sean Kavanaugh (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) paced the Red Dragons with seven points on three goals and four assists. Senior attackman Nick Stoecker (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) also had a big day with four goals and an assist.
