Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made 10 saves for his record 21st career win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cardinals junior attackman Peter Urso (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) scored two of the contest's first three goals. Junior captain Morgan Fox (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) got the Bears on the board at 8:21 of the first quarter and Barnes set up sophomore midfielder Preston Daniels (Peru, N.Y./Peru) to tie the game with a man-up goal at 6:09. Barnes then fed freshman midfielder Ronan Oakes (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) for another man-up goal to put Potsdam up for good. It was 3-2 after one quarter.
- The Bears took control of the contest with a 7-2 second quarter to make it 10-4 at the half. Oakes and Barnes scored twice and Fox, senior defender Alex Farben-Griggs (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and sophomore attackman Braydon Goddard (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had the other goals. Senior attackman Billy Kozloski (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) and Goddard picked up an assist each in the quarter.
- Junior attackman Dylan Ruland (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and sophomore midfielder Steven Fenner (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Township) scored back-to-back goals to get Plattsburgh within 10-6 at 11:34 of the third quarter. Kozloski answered with two goals and Barnes added his third to make it 13-6 after 45 minutes.
- Kozloski completed his hat trick with 4:54 in the fourth on a helper from Fox to close the scoring at 14-6.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Bears outshot the Cardinals 58-23 and had a 55-27 advantage in ground balls.
- Kozloski finished with four points on three goals and an assist to go with four ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Oakes scored three goals. Fox had two goals and an assist and Goddard totaled a goal and two assists along with seven ground balls.
- Senior captain Drew Costello was nearly unstoppable in the faceoff circle, winning 18 of his 23 attempts and collecting 15 ground balls.
- Freshman Damyn LeClair (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) caused three turnovers and picked up seven ground balls.
- Plattsburgh junior goalie Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) made 10 saves.
- Urso led the Cardinals offense with three goals.
