Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bears rough up Bobcats, 6-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-2-1) scored five times in the first half en route to a 6-0 victory over Paul Smith's College (1-3) on Friday evening. Freshman forward Makayla Jaros (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) led the Bears with five points on a goal and three assists. Senior captain Adrianna Orlando (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) also scored twice and sophomore forward Madison Goodspeed (Warrensburg, N.Y./Warrensburg) added a goal and two helpers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears put pressure on the Bobcats out of the gate and it paid off.
  • Orlando opened the scoring just 3:33 into the contest. She scored on a high shot from the left side of the box. Jaros notched her first collegiate point with an assist on the play.
  • Senior captain Morgan Williams (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) doubled the lead nearly four minutes later off a scrum from a corner kick. Jaros moved the ball Williams on the goalline and she drove it home.
  • Orlando struck again at 21:33, picking up a loose ball on the left side and driving it off a Paul Smith's defender and into the net.
  • Jaros knocked down a goal kick at 26:42 and fed Goodspeed for her first collegiate goal.
  • Jaros notched her first goal at 30:05 to make it 5-0. Freshman midfielder Hayden Byer (Chili, N.Y./Gates Chili) and Goodspeed each assisted on the play. It was Byer's first career point.
  • The Bears added a sixth goal 76:36. Bobcats goalie Peyton Hoffman (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) stopped a shot from Goodspeed, but gave up a rebound. Senior midfielder Samantha Parsons (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was on the doorstop to bury the ball a the right post.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bears outshot the Bobcats 42-1 and had a 14-3 in corner kicks.
  • Bears senior captain Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) made one save in 60:05 for her sixth career victory. Freshman goalie Mavery Weaver (Alexandria Bay, N.Y./Alexandria) didn't face a shot in the last 29:55 for her college debut.
  • The Bears are 10-0 in the all-time series dating back to a 6-0 win at Paul Smith's on October 8, 1987.

Potsdam heads to RPI tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. battle with the Engineers.
