Bears bow at RPI

TROY, N.Y.—Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (3-0-2) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-3-1) 6-1 on Saturday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Engineers scored five times in the first half.
  • Elsa Ryan opened the scoring at 13:52.
  • RPI then scored twice in 30 seconds. Maddie Kaminski finished a pass from Micaela Ross at 20:32. Ross then set up Sophia Byron at 21:02.
  • Ally Buchanan made it 4-0 with an assist from Agapi Kouvils at 32:21.
  • An own goal gave the Engineers their five-goal advantage at the break.
  • Camila Dominguez scored RPI's final goal at 62:57.
  • The Bears finally got on the board at 84:55. Freshman forward Mikayla Jaros (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) scored with an assist from junior midfielder Abigail Bianchi (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBER
  • Each team had four corner kicks.
  • Senior captain Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) made eight saves for the Bears.
  • Hanna Pihu earned the win without facing a shot in the first half. Ava Gaboury allowed a goal in the second half.
  • Jaros now has two goals and three assists for seven points in the last 24 hours.
  • The contest was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
