UTICA, N.Y.—SUNY Poly (11-15, 3-3 NECC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (12-17, 3-3) 3-0 on Friday afternoon. Senior outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears with 14 kills and an ace.
All three sets were tight, but the Wildcats held off Potsdam in each one late. SUNY Poly won 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23 decisions. Junior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) recorded seven kills, a block and four digs. Sophomore middle
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) had five kills and two blocks. Senior setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) finished with 27 assists, eight digs and two blocks. Senior libero
Keven Sanchez (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) totaled eight digs and three assists.
Jason Aubrey paced SUNY Poly with 12 kills and four digs. Tayvon Ward also had 12 kills and three aces. Garrett Hassard registered eight kills a block and two assists. Nathan Farnham had 40 assists, two blocks, two aces and 10 digs. Andrew Bertino rounded out the leaders with seven digs.
The Bears will be the fifth seed in their first New England Collegiate Conference Tournament. They will return to SUNY Poly on Tuesday night to face the fourth-seeded Wildcats in the NECC Quarterfinals.
