CANTON, N.Y—St. Lawrence University (15-9) defeated the SUNY Potsdam softball team (0-23) in both ends of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The Saints took game one 10-2 and game two 7-3.
The Saints built a 3-0 lead over the first three innings, scoring on a passed ball, an error and an attempted steal. The Bears closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the third. Senior second baseman

Hailey LaGiudice (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) drove in sophomore catcher
Kelsey Bennett (Hammond, N.Y./Hammond) with a double to left center. It was all Saints after that. They broke the game open with five runs in the fourth and scored twice in the sixth.
SLU second baseman Stella Vangee was 2-for-4 with two runs. Catcher Margo Hopper was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs and designated player Sofia Adams was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Sophomore
Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) (0-12) allowed six runs, one earned, on five hits in 3.1 innings for Potsdam. Senior
Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits in the last two innings. Sofia Berryhill (4-0) went the distance for the Saints, allowing an earned run on six hits in six innings.
In game two, St. Lawrence scored twice in the first and once in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Bears got two back in the top of the fourth on an error that scored freshman centerfielder
Danielle Moscarello (Arlington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) and sophomore third baseman
Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./North Collins). The Saints added one in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth for 7-2 lead. Potsdam got its final run in the top of the seventh. As junior shortstop
Madison McCormick (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Heuvelton) stole second, sophomore designated player
Kat Tompkins (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) charged home with the third run.
SLU shortstop Vivian Johnson was 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI. Vangee was 1-for-3 with two runs. First baseman Lauren Best was 1-for-3 with two RBI and left fielder Cora Ferguson was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Ashley (0-13) allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits in 3.2 innings while striking out four. Brown allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits in the last 2.1 innings. Jacee Casebolt (6-4) allowed one earned run on three hits in seven innings to pick up the win for the Saints.
The Bears are back in action on Thursday when they host SUNY Canton for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
