POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-3, 1-1 SUNYAC) outscored Buffalo State (3-4, 0-2) 12-4 in the second half to complete a come-from-behind 18-11 victory on Saturday afternoon. Graduate student attack
Kyrsten Stone (Massena, N.Y./Massena) matched her Potsdam best with eight points on five goals and three assists and junior attack
Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) had another big day with five goals and two assists for seven points.
The Bengals opened the scoring at 11:44 of the first quarter with a marker from sophomore attack Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West). The Bears then took the lead with two in-a-row from freshmen
Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and
Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown). Reitano assisted on Pierce's goal. The Bears then played catch up the rest of the half. Senior attack Liz Schultheis (Holley, N.Y./Brockport) and Fineour scored the next two for a 3-2 Buffalo State lead. Stone then tied the game at 4:11 with an assist from junior attack
Hannah Stevenson (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams). Schultheis and freshman Lauren Rinow (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier) got the next two and the Bengals were up 5-3 after 15 minutes.
Potsdam outscored Buffalo State 3-2 in the second quarter as the teams alternated goals. Reitano scored twice and Stone added a man-up goal. Sophomore midfielder Lindsay LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) assisted on Stone's goal and Pierce had the helper on Reitano's second. Sophomore attack Julia Wachna (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) and Schultheis had the goals for the Bengals and Buffalo State was in front 7-6 at the break.
The Bears broke loose in the third quarter with a 5-1 run. Reitano set up junior midfielder
Taylor Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) to tie the game at 13:10. Stone then scored a man-up goal at 7:19 and Potsdam never trailed again. Schultheis tied the game a final time at 3:44. Potsdam closed the quarter with a 3-0 run, including two man-up tallies. Stone set up Reitano at 2:04 and 0:49 and LaDue scored while a man-up with just three seconds left and the Bears led 11-8 after 45 minutes.

Calena Rodriguez (Albany, N.Y./Albany) scored in succession to extend the advantage to 13-8 early in the fourth quarter. Stone assisted on Rodriguez's goal. Wachna and Schultheis then sandwiched two goals around a Stone marker that Swamp set up, and it was 14-10 with 8:21 remaining. LaDue started a 4-0 run at 7:44. Freshman midfielder
Allie Pohl (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) fed Reitano for her fifth at 7:06. Stone scored her fifth at 5:43 and Stevenson set up senior attack
Macy Reid (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) at 5:06 to make it 18-10. Schultheis closed the scoring with a man-down goal at 1:37.
Senior goalie
Netta Terrance (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made 11 saves for her fourth win of the season and the eighth of her career. Senior goalie Janae Nelson (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) stopped nine shots for the Bengals.
Rodriguez stood out all around for the Bears, collecting five ground balls, four draw controls and causing three turnovers. Pierce had two ground balls, a draw control and three caused turnovers.
The win was the Bears' first over the Bengals since 2016.
Potsdam is back in action on Tuesday when the Bears head to Wells College for a 2 p.m. contest.
