BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (14-20, 6-10 SUNYAC) took both ends of a doubleheader from the SUNY Potsdam softball team (0-31, 0-16) on Friday afternoon. The Bengals won each contest by an 8-0 score.
A double by shortstop Taylor Benton, a single by third baseman Kayla Wolinski and an error gave Buffalo State a 3-0 lead after one inning of game one. The Bengals added another run in the third inning on a single from catcher Deme Kellogg. Buffalo State closed the scoring with four in the bottom of the sixth. After two RBI ground outs, Wolinski and first baseman Caitlin Parsons each doubled in a run.
Bears sophomore pitcher
Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) allowed eight runs on 11 hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Carlie Bogue (5-10) allowed just three hits and struck out four in six innings for the victors.
Junior first baseman

Kaylee Dobransky (New Britain, Conn./CREC Academy of Science and Innovation) and senior second baseman
Vanessa Brandt (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) each had hits for Potsdam. Wolinski led the Bengals' offense with a perfect 4-for-4, two runs and two RBI. Benton finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Buffalo State scored four runs in the first inning of game two. Benton tripled in a run to open the scoring. Wolinski followed with an RBI single. After a fielder's choice plated a the third run, second baseman Sarah Congelosi singled in the fourth. The Bengals added three more in the second inning on three hits to make it 7-0. Centerfielder Oriana Castello had an RBI triple. Benton added an RBI double and Parsons singled in the seventh run. An infield hit by Benton drove in the final run in the bottom of the third.
Sophomore
Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./North Collins) (0-1) allowed seven runs on nine hits in 1.1 innings pitched for the Bears. Senior
Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) gave up a single run on three hits in the last 2.2 innings. Ella Susi (4-4) picked up the win for Buffalo State after allowing just two hits and striking out four in five innings.
Grottola and Brandt collected hits for Potsdam. Benton stayed hot with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate to go with two runs and three RBI. Parsons was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
The Bears wrap up the season with a twin bill at Fredonia tomorrow beginning at noon.
