ONEONTA, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta (4-5, 2-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (5-4, 1-2) 24-8 on Tuesday afternoon. Junior attacks
Hannah Stevenson (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) and
Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) each had two goals and an assist, while graduate student attack
Kyrsten Stone (Massena, N.Y./Massena) added two goals.
Tessa Hughes scored three goals the first quarter as the Red Dragons built a 7-2 lead. Stone and Reitano each scored for Potsdam in the first quarter.
Eight different players scored for Oneonta in the second quarter as the lead extended to 15-4 at half time. Stevenson and Reitano had Potsdam's second quarter goals.
The Red Dragons added four more goals in the third quarter. Freshman midfielder
Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) scored for the Bears and Oneonta led 19-5 after 45 minutes.
Stevenson assisted on sophomore midfielder Lindsay LaDue's (Massena, N.Y./Massena) goal in the fourth quarter. Stone and Stevenson scored the other two Potsdam goals in the final 15 minutes. Oneonta struck five times in the quarter to close out the 24-8 win.
Sophomore goalie
Netta Terrance (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made 10 saves for the Bears. Hughes finished with six goals and two assists for Oneonta. Courtney Gallagher picked up the win for the Red Dragons, making six saves and allowing four goals in the first half.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they head to SUNY Geneseo.
