Bears set multiple school records at Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam track and field teams set eight program records and recorded 33 school top-10 performances at the SUNY Cortland Classic on Friday and Saturday.
 
Junior Timothy Petty (Highland, N.Y./Highland) racked up two school records, three decathlon event victories and eight top-10 Potsdam performances. He broke his own Potsdam decathlon record with score of 4777. He also set a school record with a height of 2.60m in the decathlon pole vault to finish fourth. Petty won the decathlon 400M with a time of 53.23, the program's fourth fastest time. He also won the decathlon shot put competition with a distance of 11.12m, Potsdam's 10th best mark. Petty claimed the decathlon discus title with Potsdam's second best distance of 29.45m. He finished fourth in the decathlon 100M with the program's fifth fastest time of 11.74. Petty was fifth in the decathlon 110M hurdles with Potsdam's second fastest time of 17.94. He was seventh in the decathlon long jump with the program's seventh best distance of 5.62m. Petty rounded out his day with a third place finish in the decathlon javelin throw with the school's ninth best distance of 28.88m.
 
Sophomore Sam Renaud (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) set Potsdam's record in the 400M with time of 51.43, finishing seventh. He then teamed with junior Harper Barrett (Lowville, N.Y./Beaver River), freshman Eli Siracusa (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore Ryan Orcutt (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) to set the program mark in the 4x400M (3:43.05) to finish eighth. Renaud, Sircusa, sophomore Evan Howe (Peru, N.Y./Peru) and sophomore Logan Ploss (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) then teamed to finish third in the 4x800M with time of 8:53.72, another program mark.
 
Sophomore Junior Oduro (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) topped his own Potsdam records in the 100M and 200M. He was 10th in the 100M with a time of 11.43 and 32nd in the 200M with time of 23.37. Sophomore Zane Moussa established a program record in the triple jump with  distance of 11.53m to finish 17th. He was 19th in the hammer throw with Potsdam's sixth longest attempt of 36.99m.
 
Senior Luke Favata (Lake Placid, N.Y./Lake Placid) had three program top-10 performances. He was seventh in the decathlon 110M hurdles with Potsdam's 10th fastest time of 24.62. He was seventh in the decathlon pole vault with a height of 2.50m, tying for the program's second best mark. He completed his weekend by finishing second in the decathlon javelin throw with a distance of 29.28m for the Bears seventh best mark.
 
Freshman Calvin Hitzsche (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) was 16th in the 110M hurdles with the program's third fastest time of 18.11. He was then 45th in the 200M with Potsdam's seventh fastest time of 24.74. Orcutt was 17th in the 100M with the program's sixth fastest time of 11.78. Senior Edem Bruce (Bronx, N.Y./Lancaster Mennonite School) was 23rd in the long jump with Potsdam's third longest attempt of 5.78m. Two-time defending SUNYAC Champ, junior Josh Bifolchi (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Robert Borden), was fifth in the javelin with the Bears fourth best distance of 49.66m. Senior Jady Sylvain (Jamaica, N.Y./Pathways College Prep) was 23rd in the same event with the program's 10th best distance of 28.51m. Sylvain then rounded out the men's leaders with an eighth place finish in the shot put with Potsdam's seventh best mark of 12.90m.
 
Freshman Madison Wagner (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) was 12th in the 100M, posting the program's fourth best time of 13.23. Sophomore Hailey von Ahn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was 18th in the event with Potsdam's eighth best time of 13.53. Wagner was seventh in the long jump with the third best distance in program history, 4.80m. von Ahn was seventh in the 400M (1:05.29) and 16th in the 200M (27.33), with the second fastest Potsdam times in both events. Sophomore Emily Yousey (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) was 14th in the 1500M with the program's fourth fastest time of 5:16.49. Freshman Rylee Semco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) was 28th in the hammer throw with Potsdam's fifth best distance of 24.11m. Sophomore Alexis Hartmann (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) was 29th same event with the school's sixth best distance of 23.66m.
 
The Bears wrap up the regular season next Saturday, at the St. Lawrence University Twilight Invite at 3 p.m.
