POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam senior goalie
Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 1. Thompson has earned the award five times in his career.
Thompson made 20 saves in the Bears' season-opening 9-4 win at Utica on Friday. 12 of his stops came in the second half, helping to cement the victory.
In his career, Thompson has compiled a record of 16-11 with a 9.01 goals-against-average and .613 save percentage in 37 games. He's just two wins away from tying the program record for victories. Thompson became Bears men's lacrosse's 10th All-American following the 2024 season.
The Bears face Alfred State in their home opener on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
