Beecher sets school high jump record at SLU Twilight Invite

CANTON, N.Y.—
The SUNY Potsdam track and field teams wrapped up their outdoor regular season with strong performances at the SLU Twilight Invitational on Friday evening. Senior Emma Beecher (Lockport, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) set the women's high jump program record and the Bears picked up three wins and recorded 10 total program top 10 performances. Potsdam's men and women both finished second to the host Saints.
 
Last week Beecher matched the program high jump record. This week she reached a new height of 1.43m while finishing third in the event. Freshman Carli Knapp (Lovington, N.M./Lovington) won the javelin competition with a distance of 35.06m, just 0.59m shy of her program mark. Junior Karissa Donnelly (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Morristown) was fifth in the same event with Potsdam's seventh best distance of 22.38m. Sophomore Makayla Farmer (Massena, N.Y./Massena) was sixth in the 1500M with the program's sixth best time of 5:23.24.
 
Sophomore Talan Green (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) won the men's high jump with Potsdam's second best height of 1.80m. Junior Samuel Barney (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) was fifth in the 3000M Steeplechase with the program's fifth best time of 11:32.84. Freshman Jadon Watts (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) placed 11th in the 200M with the school's 10th best time of 24.37. The Bears picked up the win in the 4x100M and had three program top 10 times in the event alone. Senior Tristin Simmons (Morristown, N.Y./Morristown), senior Zach DeLorme (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit), junior Alic Rock (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) and Watts won the competition with Potsdam's third best time of 46.98. Sophomore Cole DeLuca (Mohawk, N.Y./Central Valley Academy), senior Michael Manley (Newburgh, N.Y./Spackenkill), freshman Alexander Acocella (High Falls, N.Y./Rondout Valley) and junior Jack Schroeder (Gouverneur, N.Y./Gouverneur) were second with the Bears' seventh best time of 50.07. Junior Lance Frayler (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville), senior Mark Kozub (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), senior Cooper Ladouceur (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) and senior Zane Stevens (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy) were fifth with the ninth best time of 54.18.
 
The Bears are back in action in one week for day one of the SUNYAC Championships at SUNY Cortland.
