Six Bears earn All-SUNYAC honors, LeClair named Rookie of the Year

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Six members of the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team have earned All-SUNYAC status. Freshman defender Damyn LeClair (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus), senior captain Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) and senior goalie Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) each claimed spots on the first team. Senior attackman Rowisonkies Barnes (Akwesasne, N.Y./The Hill Academy), senior attackman Billy Koslozki (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) and senior defender Alex Farben-Griggs (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) were named to the second team. LeClair also becomes the program's third Rookie of the Year.

LeClair has been outstanding since the first minutes of his career. LeClair led the SUNYAC with 56 caused turnovers, the program's single-season and career records, and was third with 85 ground balls. LeClair also ranks third in the nation with 3.73 caused-turnovers-per-game and has generated offense with three goals and eight assists. He is the program's first rookie of the year since Bears Hall of Famer Eric Soderquist '18 in 2015. Fellow hall of famer Jed Hammill '03 was the other Bear to claim the honor in 1999.

Costello dominated the faceoff circle again this season. He won 244 of his 339 attempts for a conference leading faceoff winning percentage of .720, setting Potsdam's single-season record. As a result, he also led the SUNYAC in ground balls with 170. Costello ranks seventh in the country in ground-balls-per game and 10th in faceoff winning percentage. He closes his career as the program's record holder in faceoffs won (795), faceoff attempts (1290), winning percentage (.616) and ground balls (450). Costello was named to the second team a year ago.

Thompson was also first team during his All-American season of 2024. He was back in fine form this season, leading the SUNYAC with a .590 save percentage. He was second in the conference with a 8.75 goals-against average. Thompson is the Bears' all-time winningest goalie with 25 victories. His 10 wins in 2026 match the program's single-season mark. He has the second best career G.A.A. (9.03), is ninth in all-time save percentage (.599) and third in saves (553).

Barnes overcame injuries in the last couple seasons to break out this season. The attackman registered 37 goals and 21 assists for 58 points, good for seventh in the conference in points and sixth in assists. Barnes totaled a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists against Alfred State on March 4.

Kozloski led Potsdam and was fifth in the SUNYAC in scoring this season with 43 goals and 19 assists for 62 points. The senior recorded an eight-point contest at Oneonta on March 28 with three goals and five assists. In two seasons with the Bears, he compiled 89 points on 67 goals and 22 assists, including seven game-winning goals, while starting all 28 games he played. He also collected 57 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers in the two years.

Farben-Griggs proved himself to be an elite defender again this season. His 31 caused turnovers were second on the team and third most in the conference. The senior was also third on the team and sixth in the SUNYAC in ground balls with 70. Farben-Griggs created an impact offensively as well, scoring eight goals and assisting  on four.
