POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam Athletic Department held its 12th Annual Maxcy Awards on Thursday evening to recognize its best athletic performances of the 2025-26 season.

Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) and senior women's hockey player
Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) were selected as Potsdam's Male and Female Athletes of the Year. Senior men's lacrosse player
Jakob Lynch (Alexandria Bay, N.Y./Alexandria) and senior women's basketball and softball player
Sara Richards (Au Sable Forks, N.Y./AuSable Valley) claimed the Male and Female Maxcy/Molnar Awards. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced their award winners and the team most valuable players and coaches award winners were also honored.
The Athlete of the Year Award recognizes the male and female athletes who had exemplary seasons in their sports.
Costello, a faceoff specialist and midfielder, earned first team All-SUNYAC honors. He won 244 of his 339 faceoff attempts for a conference leading winning percentage of .720, setting Potsdam's single-season record. As a result, he also led the SUNYAC in ground balls with 170. Costello ranks seventh in the country in ground-balls-per game and 10th in faceoff winning percentage. The captain closes his career as the program's record holder in faceoffs won (795), faceoff attempts (1290), winning percentage (.616) and ground balls (450). Costello was also named to the second team All-SUNYAC last spring.
Parent was named the SUNYAC Goaltender of the Year this season as well as first team All-SUNYAC. Parent had a 10-9-2 record in 23 games, with 22 starts, tying Potsdam's single-season wins record. The captain had a career-best 2.06 goals-against-average, a .935 save percentage, and recorded four shutouts, a program single-season record. Parent was named the SUNYAC Goaltender of the week three times in the 2025-26 campaign, finishing sixth in G.A.A, fourth in save percentage, third in wins, and first in saves made (659) in the conference. Parent finishes her career with 17 wins, third most wins in program history. She is also second in saves (1598) and G.A.A. (2.13). She holds Potsdam's records in save percentage (.935) and shutouts (7).
The Maxcy/Molnar Award is presented to one male and female student-athlete who best combine the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and athletic achievement. Only senior student-athletes who compete in at least one sport for their entire undergraduate career are eligible to receive the award.
Lynch, a midfielder, played in all 15 games for the men's lacrosse team this season, helping the Bears to their third straight playoff appearance. He totaled 19 ground balls, three caused turnovers, two goals and five assists. Potsdam's captain competed in every one of his team's 61 contests in his four seasons, compiling 3 goals, nine assists, 98 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. When not competing himself, Lynch was constantly working events for many other Bears programs.
Richards served as a captain for the women's basketball team this season. The guard played in all 25 games and started 11, registering 85 points, 72 rebounds, 31 assists and 29 steals. In her three seasons, Richards scored 165 points, grabbed 138 rebounds and also contributed 64 assists and 51 steals in 72 career games. She joined the softball team this season as a utility player and in 10 contests. She gave the Bears some extra speed on the base paths and depth behind the plate.
SAAC selected women's hockey coach
Olivia Cook as the Coach of the Year. Cook led the Bears back to the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.
