POTSDAM, N.Y.—Three former Bears have been selected for the SUNY Potsdam Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026. All-region women's soccer player and standout hockey player Rylie Murray '19, men's hockey 100-point scorer Connor Treacy '10 and women's lacrosse great Murphy (Newman) Liggio '17 make up the group. This year's ceremony will take place on October 3, at 6 p.m. in Knowles Hall.
Murray came to Potsdam from Berkley, Mich. and made tremendous impacts on both programs. With the soccer team, she was part of the winningest class in school history, posting 44 victories in four straight winning seasons and two playoff appearances. The midfielder scored 19 goals and assisted on 32 for 70 points in 74 career games and is the program's all-time assists leader. She also ranks second in games played, fourth in points, seventh in game-winning goals and ninth in goals. Murray was first team All-SUNYAC in 2018 and second team in 2017. She also became the program's second all-region player in 2018. On the ice, Murray played in 99 games with 10 goals, including five power-play markers, and 23 assists for 33 points, helping the team to two postseason berths. The defenseman served as the Bears' captain in 2018-19 and was selected first team All-NEWHL the same season. She capped her final year as Potsdam's Maxcy/Molnar Award Winner for top senior female athlete. Since graduation, Murray has been both a health coach and an accountant.
Treacy is one of Potsdam men's hockey's biggest scoring threats in recent history. The Markham, Ontario native totaled 52 goals and 74 assists in 102 games, helping the Bears to three playoff appearances in his four seasons. Treacy's 126 points are the seventh best total in program history. He was a three-time captain and three-time All-SUNYAC selection, first team in both 2008-09 and 2009-10 and honorable mention in 2007-08. The forward also ranks seventh in assists, ninth in power-play goals (16) and 10th in goals. After Potsdam, Treacy coached the Syracuse University men's hockey club from 2014-21. As head coach in 2018, he led the Orange to their first ever ESCHL Tournament Championship. He currently works in sales at Syracuse Office Environments.
Newman, a Canton native, is one of the most prolific scorers for Bears women's lacrosse. In just three seasons, she compiled 160 points on 137 goals and 23 assists. The attack and midfielder ranks third in goals, fourth in points and 13th assists. Newman really broke out in 2016, recording 71 points to tie the program's previous single-season mark. Her 61 goals that season were the second most in the SUNYAC and helped Potsdam reach the postseason. Newman was second team All-SUNYAC in 2016 and third team in 2017. Since 2018, she has served as school counselor for ninth graders at Massena High School and been Canton High School's varsity girls lacrosse coach as well. Newman was the 2019 Section X Coach of the Year.
The inductions are part of the 11th annual SUNY Potsdam Athletics Alumni Weekend, which will take place October 2 – 4.
