Josh Huiatt has been named a third team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). The senior is the ninth Bears lacrosse player to earn the honor.

After having his 2020 season cut short due to the pandemic, Huiatt returned to the Bears this spring. The midfielder was named State University of New York Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring during the regular season with 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points. He also totaled 35 ground balls and five caused turnovers. After a career-high 11-point performance in Potsdam's playoff clinching, double overtime, 14-13 victory over Oneonta State on April 23, Huiatt was named the conference's athlete of the week. He has earned first team All-SUNYAC honors in 2018, 2019 and 2021. He was Potsdam's Maxcy/Molnar Award winner last spring as the College's top senior male athlete and he was voted the Spring Athlete of the Year by the Bears Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this year. Huiatt (104-73-177) now ranks fourth in program history in points and sixth in goals.

Soon to be hall of famers Ryan Duffy (2014) and Brady Fremont (2013) were the last two Bears lacrosse players to earn All-American Status. Joe Schoener (1983), Chris Mele (1987), John Ivery (1995), Brian Austin (2001), Ryan Hanretty (2005) and Rashaun Durden (2011) have already claimed spots in the Bears Hall of fame. Huiatt is the first Bear to be named All-American since men's basketball player Isaiah Brown accomplished the feat last year.

The Bears posted a 7-4 record this spring, including a 5-1 mark in the SUNYAC East, earning the East's No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs. The season's highlights included the program's first win over Clarkson since 2016, the first wins over Plattsburgh since 2014 and the first postseason berth since 2016.
