Box Score The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team scored its first road win of the season, defeating Plattsburgh 62-51 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference match-up at Plattsburgh, N.Y.
The Bears moved to 3-15 on the season, including a 2-9 mark in SUNYAC play, while the Cardinals fell to 6-11 and 3-8 in conference contests.
Senior captain
Aimee Kellicutt (Lisle, N.Y.) tied a career high with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. The Bears shot 44.4 percent from the field in the second half compared to 31 percent in the first half.
Potsdam allowed Plattsburgh to shoot just 30.9 percent from the field for the game.
"We started a little sluggish in the first half, but made a huge run in the second half by picking up our defense," Potsdam coach
Tara Ruckh said. "We made open shots, but our defensive intensity was what sparked the offense."
Trailing 37-27 just over five minutes into the second half, the Bears made a run, tying the game at 42-42 after a 3-pointer by freshman
Hannah Kmiecinski (Webster, N.Y.) with 7:35 left.
Following a pair of Plattsburgh free throws, Potsdam took control of the game with a 14-2 run sparked by a pair of Kellicutt 3-pointers.
Sophomore
Katy Briedis (Canton, N.Y.) scored 11 points for the Bears, while Kmiecinski scored all seven of her points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman
Jessica Kouzan (Webster, N.Y.) added nine points and three steals.
The Bears shot a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line, all in the second half.
Potsdam returns to the floor this Friday at Geneseo. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
