Box Score OSWEGO, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team was unable to find its offensive rhythm Friday, falling 64-50 at Oswego State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal contest at Max Ziel Gymnasium.
The Bears (8-18 overall), the tournament's No. 8 seed, struggled against the size and physicality of the Lakers, who are the top seed after winning the league regular season title. Potsdam committed 18 turnovers, including 10 in the first half, and shot 38.5 percent for the contest.
Sophomore
Curtis Pierce (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Bears with 18 points and seven rebounds, while freshman
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, N.Y.) finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
Oswego (23-3) shot 42.6 percent from the floor, including 47.6 percent in the second half, and 19-of-25 from the free throw line.
The Lakers held a double-digit lead for a majority of the second period. After a 3-pointer by Efese brought the Bears to within six, Potsdam went scoreless for nearly four minutes as Oswego jumped to a 41-27 advantage at the 12:30 mark.
The Lakers took their largest lead of the game at 47-29 with 10:04 to play on back-to-back 3-pointers as Potsdam struggled on the offensive end. The Bears would get as close as 12 but were unable to make a serious push or gain momentum.
Potsdam trailed by just seven at the half despite shooting just 39.1 percent in the period with 10 turnovers. The Bears managed a 7-0 run, started by a 3-pointer by senior
Anthony Williams (Long Island, N.Y.) to cut their deficit to 27-22 before Oswego's Ryan Sheridan converted a driving runner just before the buzzer.
The Bears finished the regular season in a tie for sixth in the SUNYAC standings with a 7-11 conference record.
