MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (2-1) rolled to a 13-4 road victory over Morrisville State (2-2) on Wednesday afternoon.  Bears' senior attackman Peter Pike scored three goals and assisted on three others for a game-high six points. Potsdam junior attackman Kyle Nicholas scored four goals.

The Mustangs outshot the Bears 6-4 in the first quarter, but the game remained scoreless after 15 minutes. Potsdam started a 3-0 run at 12:59 of the second quarter. Pike and sophomore midfielder Jared Flath took advantage of the Bears' first two man-up situations 45 seconds apart. Nicholas scored three of the next four markers and Potsdam led 5-1 at 11:16 of the third quarter.

Morrisville added a second goal at 9:19 of the third period, but the Bears answered with a 5-0 run for a commanding 10-2 lead with 19:16 left in the contest. Junior midfielder Pat Morrill, Pike, Flath, junior midfielder Derek Frost and Nicholas each found the net during the stretch. The Mustangs scored the next two and trailed 10-4 with seven minutes on the clock, but three final Bears' goals put the game away. Sophomore attackman Rob Kunz struck at 3:38, Pike at 1:53 on the man-advantage, and freshman midfielder John Hawk notched his first career goal with just 19 seconds left.

In goal, reigning SUNYAC Goalie of the Week Mike Quinlan made 12 saves to earn the win. Mustang goalie Michael Hinchey finished with 18 stops.

Potsdam outshot Morrisville 42-26 and collected 36 ground balls to the Mustangs' 24. Kevin Wilkerson scored twice for Morrisville.

“Our defense and short stick middies and played well today,” said Bears Head Coach Rick Berkman. “Our offense hasn't quite put a full game together yet, but we're improving. A big factor in our win was the great job Jared Flath and Dave Kunz did controlling the faceoffs and getting us possessions.”

Potsdam is back in action on Saturday, March 24, when they travel to Troy for a neutral site match up with Maritime College at 1 p.m.
