Bears drop two on Senior Day

POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Geneseo Blue Knights (11-15, 5-5 SUNYAC) came into Potsdam and took both games of the doubleheader. Geneseo rallied to pull out a 5-3 win in the first game and shut the Bears out in game two on Potsdam's senior day.

Potsdam (9-17, 2-10) held the lead for most of the opener, but was done in by a three-run seventh inning. Freshman Sami Brown led off the inning with a base hit and scored on an error by the Blue Knights. The Bears struck for two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when junior Jenny Jones stroked a run scoring double and came home on another costly error by Geneseo. The Blue Knights scored a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings but trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh. Geneseo scored three runs on two hits and took advantage of a Potsdam error to pull ahead 5-3 and the Bears were unable to close the gap. Brown finished the game with three of the team's six hits and scored a run. Senior Brittany Pawlowski took the loss on the mound, going seven innings and allowing only three earned runs.

Geneseo took control of game two with by scoring five runs in the top of the third inning thanks to a couple well placed base hits. Three of the Blue Knight's five hits in the inning failed to leave the infield as the team batted around. Thayer would settle down on the mound and only allowed one run the rest of the game but the offense was kept at bay by pitcher Katie Gallagher who went a complete game and allowed only four hits.     

The Bears return at action on Monday afternoon with a game against SUNY Canton with first pitch coming at 3 p.m.
