POTSDAM, N.Y.— The SUNY Potsdam Softball Team will host its Lace up 4 Pediatric Cancer doubleheader this Saturday, April 22, when the Bears square off with SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh State.
The Bears are teaming up with Go4theGoal®, a national non-profit dedicated to helping kids with cancer and their families across the country through the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® initiative.

Kolbi Lyon (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) been affected by this disease. Lyon's brother Alec, who is now 10 years old, was diagnosed with a stage 4 Wilms tumor at the age of 5 1/2. He went through one year of intensive radiation and chemo treatments to battle the kidney cancer and will be five years' cancer free in November. Alec, who is beating the odds, will throw out the first pitch against the Cardinals on Saturday.
The Bears will also be wearing gold shirts during the games and gold laces as a symbol of the fight against pediatric cancer. The team sell t-shirts at the games for $10 each with all proceeds going toward the cause. The Bears will also be accepting cash donations to be donated on the website:

Since the campaign started in 2011, Go4theGoal® has had over 250,000 athletes in all sports and levels wear their gold laces in support of the cause. The funds raised will directly benefit kids with cancer and their families in the Saint Lawrence County area.
Prior to Saturday's twinbill, Potsdam will host SUNY Canton for two on Thursday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m.
