POTSDAM, N.Y. – Youth showed in the SUNY Potsdam golf team's season opener as the Bears finished fourth at the Potsdam Bears Fall Golf Invitational, held at the par-72 Potsdam Town & Country Club.
 
The Bears recorded a score of 364, behind Oswego State (291), Clarkson (300), SUNY Canton (309) and a second Clarkson team (314).
 
Freshman Jack Corcoran (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) led the way for Potsdam, scoring an 87 overall with a 45 on the front nine and 42 on the back. Corcoran had five pars on the back nine.
 
Each of the players flashed solid results, as junior Vinny Guimond (Sorel-Tracy, Quebect/Rice Memorial Prep) scored a 91, but shaved five strokes off on the back nine (48-43). Sophomore Jake Juron (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) also was better the second half of the day, scoring a 42 after posting 50 on the front for a total of 92. Junior Devin Caples (Wilton, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was the opposite, scoring a 42 on the front before struggling with a 52 on the back nine for a score of 94. Junior Dylan Estal (DeWitt, Iowa/South Jefferson) also produced a 94, scoring 47 on both the front and back nine.  
 
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, at 1 p.m. at the St. Lawrence University Invitational.
