POTSDAM, N.Y.--SUNY  Potsdam is looking to pack Maxcy Hall on Friday, February 7, as SUNY Potsdam holds its 17th annual "Bear Pride Night." Once again, through the combined efforts of the Offices of Alumni Relations, Student Life and the Bears' Athletic Department, the College invites area alumni, fans and students to cheer on the Bears and take part in a number of fun activities. The evening contests will also celebrate the 34th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).

The traditional Bears' tripleheader evening schedule includes:

        Coach Brittany Cohen's much improved squad continues their playoff quest.

        Led by Coach Jay Green, the Bear skaters celebrate Senior Night before taking on the Bengals.

        Coach Jim Bechtel's first place Bears seek their first conference title since 2005.

  • Chuck-a-Puck;
  • Student Spirit Contest
  • two $500 raffle drawings
  • coupons for free subs and pizza
  • "Bear Pride" t-shirts
  • two 40" SMART televisions.

Also, the student dance squads will be on hand to display their skills as part of an entertaining night for all Bear fans.

Free admission is available for:
  • SUNY Potsdam alumni and their families by visiting the Alumni Relations table in the Maxcy Hall lobby. Bear alums can also reconnect with friends in the hospitality room during the games as well.
  • All girls and women wearing their team jerseys in celebration of female participation in sports and athletics.
  • Area high school students who wear their school colors.

NGWSD began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Celebrating NGWSD inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. NGWSD honors the achievements of female athletes, coaches and leaders and continues to Lead Her Forward by acknowledging the power of sports to unlock her potential. We invite you to celebrate with us in your community and to join the Women's Sports Foundation as we Lead Her Forward in 2020.
