NEW LONDON, N.H.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (2-0) kicked off its second season with two 3-0 victories at Colby-Sawyer College (0-2) on Thursday evening. Junior outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) also powered the Bears with 15 kills, nine digs, an ace and a block. Senior outside hitter
Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had 14 kills, two service aces and 15 digs.
Potsdam captured the first match by 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21 scores. Sophomore middle
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had a contest-best seven kills. Rogers posted six kills, a block and an ace. Sophomore outside hitter
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added five kills and eight digs. Sophomore middle
Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) had three aces. Senior setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) had 26 assists and a block. Zimmerman chipped in nine digs and junior libero
Kiernan Morgan (Lynbrook, N.Y./Valley Stream North) had seven.
In match two, Potsdam won 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21 victories. Zimmerman totaled 10 kills, two aces and six digs. Rogers had nine kills and eight digs. Hendler contributed three kills, three aces and two blocks. Roy finished his strong day with 20 assists and two aces. Morgan added another nine digs to his total.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday at Elmira College for two matches. Potsdam faces the host Soaring Eagles at 11 a.m. and Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m.
