Bears bow to No. 11 Eagles, Cougars

UNION, N.J.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (4-11) fell to No. 11 Juniata College (12-3) 3-0 and host Kean University (5-4) 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. Junior outside hitter Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) and senior outside hitter Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears with 26 and 23 kills, respectively.
 
The Eagles claimed 25-14, 25-22 and 25-14 victories in the opener. Zimmerman led the Bears with 10 kills, six digs and a block. Sophomore middle Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meado) had five kills and three blocks. Rogers added four kills. Senior setter Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) posted 20 assists, two blocks and four digs. Senior libero Keven Sanchez (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) had five digs and an assist.
 
Kevin Duffy totaled 13 kills and three blocks for Juniata. Tyler Goldsborough had 11 kills and Joseph Chambers finished with seven kills and two blocks. Reese Ganter had a game-high 35 assists along with four digs. Drew Hunker added nine digs, two blocks and an ace.
 
In the finale, the host Cougars and Bears alternated victories. Kean won set one 27-25, set three 25-17 and set five 15-10, while Potsdam took set two 25-21 and set four 25-17. Rogers had a match-high 22 kills to go with nine digs and an ace. Zimmerman claimed another 13 kills and four aces. Hendler finished with six kills and four blocks. Roy had 44 assists, 11 digs and three blocks. Sanchez added 14 digs and sophomore middle Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) contributed four blocks.
 
Duncan Beilke paced Kean with 19 kills, 12 digs and two aces. Rahjeem Meulens had 12 kills and Ryan DiCandilo chipped in 11 kills, two blocks and an ace. Zachary Noll had a match best 56 assists.
 
The Bears are back in Maxcy Field house next Saturday for their home opener when they host Colby-Sawyer College at noon and Wells College at 4 p.m.
