Bears pick up road win at Wells, 3-1

AURORA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (5-11) ended a five-game skid with a 3-1 victory at Wells College (1-10) on Friday night. Senior outside hitter Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears' charge against his former team with 14 kills, three aces and eight digs. Sophomore middle Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) registered a career-high 11 kills and junior outside hitter Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) finished with eight kills and six digs.
 
Potsdam took the opening set 25-18 before falling 25-20 in the second. The Bears then claimed the final two by 25-14 and 25-22 scores. Senior setter Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) had two aces and a contest-best 37 assists. Senior libero Keven Sanchez (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) posted a match-high 10 digs and three assists.
 
Connor Garvey had a contest-best 15 kills along with six digs and four assists to pace the Express. Riley Mahoney matched Garvey with 15 kills and also contributed six digs and six assists. Cooper Colesante chipped in six kills, three blocks and 30 assists. Confidence Burrows had eight digs and Christian Hahn added five blocks.
 
The Bears meet Wells again tomorrow at 11 a.m. and Sage at 1 p.m.
