Bears split weekend contests at Wilkes University

WILKES-BARRE, PA.—SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (4-7) beat Wilkes University (4-5) 3-1 (16-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22) then fell to Penn-State Behrend 3-0 (16-25, 18-25, 22-25) this afternoon at Wilkes.  
 
In game one against the host Colonels, senior outside hitter Joe Zimmerman (Grand Island N.Y/Grand Island) had an impressive 16 kills, four aces and nine digs. Junior outside hitter Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga N.Y/Cheektowaga) had 12 kills, three blocks and two assists for the Bears.
Sophomore Tom Shemik (Grand Island N.Y/Grand Island) had nine kills and two aces, while senior setter Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y. North Tonawanda) racked up a match-high of 41 assists.
 
For Wilkes University, Paul Binner had five kills, two aces, two blocks, eight assists and seven digs. Everett Fritz had six kills, and Casey Shipman had 14 assists.
 
In game two against Penn State Behrend, Zimmerman once again led the team with seven kills, two aces, two blocks, and seven digs. Sophomore setter Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) had four kills and one block, while Roy had 14 assists. Senior libero Keven Sanchez (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) lead the Bears with 10 digs.
 
For Penn State Behrend, Logan Hering had 11 kills and nine digs. Cody Schnur had eight kills and five blocks, While JP Goodsel had five kills, two aces and eight digs. Diego Ortiz finished the night with 16 digs.
 
The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on King's College at 12 and 2 p.m.
