CANTON N.Y.—The Bears track and field teams opened the outdoor season with strong individual performances at the St. Lawrence University Saints Ice Broken Open on Saturday. The women set three new program records along with eight top-10 performances, while the men's team set two new program records with nine top-10 performances for the day. The women's and men's team both placed fourth as St. Lawrence University captured both the men's and women's titles.

Freshman
Madison Wagner (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) placed second in the 100m finals (13.11) after winning her preliminary heat in a time of 13.04 to set a new Potsdam record. Sophomore
Hailey von Ahn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) followed close behind in finals to place third with the program's third best time of 13.14, improving on her preliminary time of 13.41. von Ahn went on to place second in the 200m in a new school record time of 27.26. Sophomore
Emily Yousey (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) set the pace for the women's 800m winning in a time of 2:38.11 for the program's seventh best time. Sophomore
Natalie Hartmann (Farmingville, N.Y./ Sachem East) and freshman
Aislinn Hertle (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) followed behind as they placed fourth (3:01.46) and fifth (3:20.77), respectively. Senior
Emily Ware (Massena, N.Y./Massena) ran 5:55.62 in the 1500m for the program's 10th best time. Ware would then team up with, von Ahn, Wagner, and Yousey to set the school record in the 4x400m relay as they placed second in a time of 4:35.95. Freshman
Rylee Semco (Slate Hill, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) and sophomore
Alexis Hartmann (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) led the throws as they placed ninth (6.96m) and tenth (6.15m) in shotput, respectively. Wagner closed out the meet with a mark of 4.70m in long jump for the program's second best jump of all time.

Senior
Jady Sylvain (Jamaica, N.Y./Pathways College Prep) led the Bears as he earned top-10 marks in all three throws he competed in. Sylvain opened with a personal record in shotput as he placed second with a throw of 12.78m for the program's seventh best mark. He went on to earn the program's fifth best throw in discus, with a personal best of 25.40m and the program's eighth best javelin throw with a mark of 27.72m. Potsdam throwers continued to find success through the day as sophomore
Zane Moussa placed third in the hammer throw with the program's third best mark of 39.18m. He also earned a program top-10 mark in discus as he threw 24.07m for the program's seventh best throw. Freshman
Henry Mueller (Westfield, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) narrowly beat Moussa's mark for Potsdam's sixth best discus throw, throwing 24.23m. Sophomore
Sam Renaud (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) opened his season in the 800m with a solid time of 2:02.97 for Potsdam's fifth best time in the event. Renaud came from behind with a stellar kick in the second lap of 800m to move up three places to come in second. Sophomore
Luc Thimot (Buffalo, N.Y./ City Honors School) finished the 800m in 2:27.65 for the program's tenth best time. Â Junior
Harper Barrett (Lowville, N.Y./Beaver River) set the school record in the 400m High Hurdles as he placed fourth (1:11.87). Barrett then raced with Renaud, sophomore
Logan Ploss (East Greenbush,/N.Y. Columbia) , and sophomore
Evan Howe (Peru, N.Y./Peru) in the 4x400m relay to earn Potsdam's second best time in the event, finishing in 3:58.47. Senior
Luke Favata (Lake Placid, N.Y./Lake Placid) broke the school record in Pole Vault with a vault of 2.45m to win the event for the Bears.
