POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam sophomore men's lacrosse player
Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 28. It's the second week in a row, and the fourth time this season, Thompson has claimed the honor.
Thompson helped the Bears to two more wins and a playoff berth with a 6.64 goals-against average and a .676 save percentage. The goalie allowed just one goal and made six saves in a 17-4 win over Plattsburgh on Wednesday. In a playoff clinching 11-10 overtime victory at Brockport on Saturday, the he stopped 17 shots. Thompson leads the nation with a .659 save percentage and leads the SUNYAC and is sixth in the country with a goals-against-average of 7.17.
Thompson leads the fourth-seeded Bears (9-5, 4-3) into the SUNYAC Semifinals at top-seeded SUNY Cortland (11-4, 7-0) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
