POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior men's hockey player John Werber (Skillman, N.J. / Team Maryland) and senior women's track and field runner
Emily Yousey (Lacona, N.Y. / Sandy Creek) have been named SUNY Potsdam Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 8.
Werber's performance in goal helped the Bears to a 2-0 SUNYAC weekend. His 1.50 goals-against-average and .959 save percentage catapulted Potsdam into fourth place in the conference. In a win at No. 14 Cortland on Friday, the goaltender stopped 46 of 48 shots as the Bears upset the Red Dragons 4-2. Saturday at Morrisville, he made 25 saves, just missing a shutout by two minutes as the Bears defeated the Mustangs 5-1.
Yousey ended the week with two first place finishes and broke a program record. On Tuesday at Plattsburgh, the runner came in first in the 400M with a time of 1:02.08, the second fastest in program history. She also finished first in the 200M with a time of 28.93. At the Utica Invitational on Saturday, she set a new program record of 27.91 in the 200M. She also competed in the 800M, finishing in 2:27.77, Potsdam's third best time.
