POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam Athletic Department recognized the best of its 2024-25 season on Thursday night at the 11th Annual Maxcy Awards.
Men's volleyball player
Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was selected as Potsdam's Male Athlete of the Year, while women's lacrosse player
Kimora Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) earned Female Athlete of the Year honors. Men's hockey and lacrosse player
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) claimed the male Maxcy/Molnar award and women's basketball
Mikayla Shipley (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) was the female Maxcy/Molnar winner. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced their award winners and the team most valuable players and coaches award winners were also honored.
The Athlete of the Year Award recognizes the male and female athletes who had exemplary seasons in their sports.
Kilinski, senior a middle hitter, was the 2025 New England Volleyball Conference Player of the Year as well as first team All-NEVC. He led his team in kills (249) and was second in service aces (20) and digs (126). He ranked third in the NEVC in kills-per-set (3.19) and seventh in kills. Kilinski is program's all-time blocks (167) and solo blocks (51) leader and ranks second in kills-per-set (2.44). He ranks third on the all-time list in kills (636) and aces (66) and is seventh in digs (215). Kilinski was second team All-NEVC last season.
Yesterday, Swamp was named the SUNYAC Goalie and Rookie of the Year as well as first team All-SUNYAC. In her debut season, she posted a .446 save percentage with 129 saves and 12.90 goals-against average. Swamp had a career-high 18 saves against Cortland on March 22. She already ranks sixth on the program's wins list with seven victories. In the SUNYAC, she ranked third in saves and second in save percentage. Swamp is her program's first goalie of the year and first team selection, as well as its second rookie of the year.
The Maxcy/Molnar Award is presented to one male and female student-athlete who best combine the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and athletic achievement. Only senior student-athletes who compete in at least one sport for their entire undergraduate career are eligible to receive the award.
Rose was a standout for both of his teams. On the Ice, the defenseman and captain played in 96 games over his career. He scored 12 goals and assisted on 22 for 34 points. On the turf, the midfielder posed an offensive threat. Rose was third on the team in scoring this season with 31 points on 18 goals and 13 assists, while starting in 13 of his 14 contests. In four seasons with the lacrosse team, he totaled 121 points on 76 goals and 45 assists. He played in 57 games and started 39.
Shipley was a fixture at guard for the women's basketball team for four seasons. She saw action in 92 games and started 53, including every contest this season and last. Shipley totaled 278 points, 305 rebounds, 222 assists, 87 steals and 21 blocks in a Bears uniform. She also spent three seasons with the women's soccer team, playing in 34 contests with 19 starts.
SAAC selected men's and women's volleyball coach
Josh Stokes as the Coach of the Year. Stokes guided both programs to the postseason, including the men to the No. 2 seed in the NEVC Tournament. He was also named NEVC Coach of the Year. The women were 14-10 (4-5 SUNYAC) and had
Alyssa Adams and
Megan Henry named third team All-SUNYAC. The men set the program record for overall (18) and conference wins (5). They won a record 12 matches in a row. In addition to Kilinski and Stokes' honors,
Duncan Tenhagen earned his second straight second team selection and
Jack Orrange was named to the Sportsmanship Team. Potsdam reached the postseason for the fourth consecutive year and claimed a spot in the semifinals for the second time.
