Box Score The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team battled for the second consecutive match, but was defeated 4-0 at Brockport in a State University of New York Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

"We worked extremely hard, but gave up some goals we were disappointed about," Potsdam coach Tim Moody said. "In both matches this weekend, we had chances to score first, which would have changed the complexity of each game."

The Bears (7-3 overall, 0-2 SUNYAC) had a good early chance to take the lead, but junior Dedra Palmer's shot off a combination pass was denied on a great save by the goalkeeper.

After falling behind 2-0 at the half, Potsdam had another chance early in the second when junior Jess Mehm (Schroon Lake, N.Y.) nearly scored on a breakaway, almost cutting the Brockport advantage in half.

The Golden Eagles (5-4, 1-2) posted 21 shots, including 15 on goal, against Bears goalkeeper Caitlin Titus (Jamesville, N.Y.), who surrendered her first goal of the season in the 31st minute.

Moody commended the first-half performances of Palmer (Whitesboro, N.Y.), junior captain Kathleen Frear (Scotia, N.Y.) and junior Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, Conn.).

"Overall it was a good team performance," Moody said. "We just made a couple of mistakes, which should motivate us to correct those in our matches next weekend."

The Bears continue SUNYAC play this Friday, Oct. 1, against Cortland in the team's first conference game at home. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Maxcy Hall Turf Field.
