POTSDAM, N.Y.—Oneonta State (5-5, 4-1 SUNYAC) scored a goal in each half to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (3-6-2, 0-4) 2-0 in a SUNYAC contest on Friday afternoon. Red Dragon senior midfielder Dana DeSimone scored Oneonta's first goal and assisted on the other.

The Red Dragons got on the board just 1:43 into the contest as DeSimone finished a pass from sophomore midfielder Kori Hamm. Oneonta kept possession for much of the rest of the half, but Potsdam's defense prevented many more dangerous scoring chances.

Oneonta added its insurance goal in the 63rd minute. DeSimone sent a cross in close and sophomore defender Amanda Regensburger drove it home to give the Red Dragons their 2-0 advantage. As they had in the first half, the Potsdam defense stepped up and prevented Oneonta's potent offense from adding to their lead. However, the Red Dragon defense remained impenetrable and sealed up the shutout.

Potsdam senior goalkeeper Dedra Palmer made 10 saves in the contest. Oneonta senior goalie Amy Lusby was untested while earning the victory.

“To hold a good offensive team Oneonta in check like we did today, while it's still a loss, it's also a moral victory,” said Bears Head Coach Mark Misiak, who was pleased with Potsdam's defensive play. “They had to come here and fight for the win they got. Dedra was great in goal and made some big saves to keep us in it. Credit to our backline, they played very well today. As a team, the defensive effort was fantastic and it's a huge step forward to play a team this good so close.”

The Bears host New Paltz tomorrow at 1 p.m.
